What is the term for the process by which plants release water vapor into the atmosphere?

Transpiration is the process through which plants release water vapor into the atmosphere. It occurs when water is absorbed by plant roots, moves through the plant, and is ultimately released as water vapor through small openings on the undersides of leaves known as stomata.
